Title: The Guru's Guide to Transact-SQL Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional Authors: Ken Henderson Rating: 5/5 ![]() Such a great wealth of code! I've never seen such a complete example code set in one book. For me, the OLE automation chapter was worth the price of the book all by itself. I've been wondering for some time how to use this poorly documented part of the Transact-SQL language. The book told me everything I needed to know and more and provided numerous high-quality examples. Sp_generate_script, for example, lets me generate a script for any object on the server (it uses SQL's DMO COM objects). I would have paid what I did for the book just to get this example code. The book says in the Preface that it intends to deliver code that people could use in production if they wanted to. I'd say it does this quite well. The book is an extremely good value.

Title: CCDA/CCDP Flash Cards and Exam Practice Pack Publisher: Cisco Press Authors: Anthony Sequeira, Kevin Wallace Rating: 3/5 ![]() All in all I found this to be a good supplement to my other CCDA study material. It particularly was useful to skim though the cards prior to reading that topic (from another source) and then really quizzing yourself after finishing the chapter. The quiz engine had a few mistakes but overall I found it quite useful. However, when I installed the flash cards on my Sony Clie TH-55 it caused a fatal memory error that required a hard reset! It was a painful loss of data! After sending my clie back to Sony, they certified it OK, and when I tried to install the cards (a 2nd and 3rd time) it crashed again! Acckk!! I'm sure this is not common but back up your PDA before installing it!!! I rate it 3 stars only because I bought it so I could study on the train with my PDA, and sadly cannot do so. (would be a 4 otherwise)

Title: The Cognitive Style of PowerPoint Publisher: Graphics Pr Authors: Edward R. Tufte Rating: 2/5 ![]() Tufte is an gifted analyst and communicator, but seems to have taken the easy way out on this publication. He rails against the limitations of PowerPoint, of which there are many, but does not provide much in the way of practical recommendations.

Title: Expert One-on-One J2EE Development without EJB Publisher: Wrox Authors: Rod Johnson, Juergen Hoeller Rating: 5/5 ![]() If you were only able to buy one J2EE book, then this would be it. J2EE is a complex technology filled with opportunities to make judgment errors. This book clearly outlines the rationale and implications of J2EE decisions to avoid making those costly mistakes. The information in this book could be the difference between a success and a failure. I highly recommend this book.
